Education Through Connection

My interest in child development began when I was a young girl. My mother provided care for infants, toddlers, and school aged children. Being surrounded by babies and toddlers on a daily basis, I discovered I could connect with them easily.

While completing my undergraduate degree in psychology and working as a nanny, my passion for child psychology catapulted. Throughout my teaching career in Colorado, China, and Hong Kong, I felt inspired by young children and teenagers from all over the world. The privilege of living abroad for eight years while teaching at international schools allowed me to understand what all children need no matter their ethnicity or country of origin, a connection with others.

After completing my masters in counseling, I began working with families in a therapy setting. I continued to grow as a mental health counselor and child advocate. Through in-home therapy, parent coaching, and Montessori training, my passion for child development continued to evolve. While pregnant with my first child, I began an in-depth study of the Montessori method. Early in my research, it was clear to me the Montessori method was the philosophy I wanted to use as a guide with my own children. It aligned with the child's natural physical and mental development and was also a respectful way of parenting, coinciding with highly regarded Dr Emmi Pikler's principles on child / parent relationships. Once residing back stateside with two toddlers of my own and wanting to maximize my time with them, opening a Montessori preschool seemed the natural next step to combine my love for Montessori and child psychology skill set.

I am dedicated to providing a mutually respectful and educational environment for toddlers to continue their development into kind and independent problem-solvers. I will teach them not only to care for themselves but also each other. I am committed to doing my part in creating a world where children are valued and respected from birth, and given the space they need to grow at their own pace. Imagine a world where toddlers are taught they can think for themselves, their feelings matter, they are valued and respected, and experience a genuine connection with others. How different would our world look when they are adults?

I am Ms Crystal

Hi, my name is Crystal and this will be my first year assisting Ms Amy at Mindful Explorers. I am so excited to be here!

I earned my Infant/Toddler Montessori credential after attending Montessori Education Center of the Rockies in 2015.
My love for Montessori, began in 2007 when I worked for Denver Public Schools at Sandoval Elementary, a bilingual Montessori School. My first language is Spanish, a fact that motivated me to apply in the first place. Little did I know I was going to be changed forever when introduced to the Montessori method.

I was raised in Aurora, CO but have lived all over the country and am so happy to be setting roots back in Colorado. I have 3 children, 2 dogs and just celebrated 14 years of marriage.

I can’t wait to get to know you and your children. I am so grateful and excited to be back in the classroom after a few years away to focus on my babies.
